Shahid Parvez khan

SangeetSabha is proud to present a living legend of Indian Classical Music, Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan on Sitar!

Ud. Shahid Parvez Khan is an exponent of the Gayaki Ang, a style that transfers the emotional directness and tonal nuance of the human voice to the instrument. He is renowned for both, his lyricism and complelling rhythms. Ustad Shahid Parvez is the leading light of Etawah Gharana in our generation. His father and Guru was Ustad Aziz Khan, a great musician of his time and a noted composer. Ustadji is the grandson of Ustad Waheed Khan Sahab, the legendary Sitar and Surbahar player.

Accompanied on Tabla by Pandit Nayan Ghosh. Panditji is known for his artistic brilliance which are steeped in deep classical roots. He is one of the few tabla players who had a chance to learn from the Great Ustad Ahmedjan Thirakwa Khan Sahib. Amongst the new generation of music seekers, he is held as an important reference. He is the son and disciple of the Tabla maestro, Pandit Nikhil Ghosh and nephew of the great flute player, Pandit Pannalal Ghosh.

Solo Tabla Concert by Prafulla Athalye presented by SangeetSabha in New York City on March 26 2011 at the Manhattan Sikh Center and recorded by WKCR 89.9 FM.

Prafulla Athalye is one of the leading Tabla players of India and is one of the most senior disciples of Tabla Maestro Late “Ustad Allarakha.” Prafulla started taking his initial training from”Shri. Vasant Vishnupurikar” when he was 6 years old. After studying first 5 years from him, he studied about 14 years from “Ustad Allarakha” and currently, Prafulla is studying under his son, Tabla Maestro  “Ustad Zakir Hussain” and “Pandit Arvind Mulgaonkar”. Overall, he has been learning since more than 28 years. Prafulla is the recipient of many awards.
