Negrita start their musical career in 1992 as Pau, Mac and Drigo hang around the same places and schools in the provincial town of Arezzo (Tuscany) with a wild love for rock and blues… well before being signed they show the Italian audience their great impact and energy, building their profile as a unique live rock band. Their debut album released in 1994 “NEGRITA” (Polygram/Mercury) immediately reveals the essence of the band: irresistible guitar riffs, “stainless” rhythm section, powerful bass grooves and incisive vocal lines delivering relevant messages to the audience.

Roy Paci & Aretuska are a pop/world music/jam band based in Italy who over their years of work became a favorite on both the European festival circuit and world music charts alike.

James Ilgenfritz approaches the double bass as an archeologist, examining rarified aspects of the instrument’s sonic palette to confound the status quo. This evening presents two enembles: the improvising group Trio Caveat is an exploration of the intersection between free improvisation, spontaneous collage forms, and shifting harmonic vocabularies. Trio Caveat consists of bassist James Ilgenfritz, saxophonist Jonathan Moritz, and guitarist Chris Welcome. The group’s discreet dynamics and attention to unlikely sonorities facilitate the deepest possible listening experience. Featuring saxophonists Josh Sinton and Jonathan Moritz, guitarists Ryan Blotnick and Chris Welcome, and drummer Mike Pride, the Anagram Ensemble blends sonic experimentalism, traditional formal inquiries, rhythmic angularity, and extended improvisational forms into a multifaceted ensemble dynamic. The original compositions the group performs integrate elements of chamber music, jazz improvisation, and distinctive structural constructs for generating improvisational forms.

The Secret Orchestra is Yuko Fujiyama – piano, Clif Jackson – bass, and David Gould – kit & percussion. Featuring spontaneous compositions and original compositions by Clif Jackson and Yuko Fujiyama, the Secret Orchestra came together sometime in 2007. The group enjoys a wide spectrum of  musical space to play in and their varied backgrounds create a strong dynamic. They play original compositions as well as spontaneously improvised pieces. The overall musical aesthetic is grounded in a sense of direction and an exploration of colors, textures, silence, and rhythmic and melodic structures.

Pedro Pablo Martinez, an alumnus of the stellar Latin fusion band Yerba Buena and a collaborator with the likes of Eddie Palmieri, Isaac Delgado and Paquito d’Rivera, draws upon his deep Afro-Cuban roots and other influences of the African Diaspora to profess his love for and devotion to the musical legacy of the Motherland. He will be appearing with his great ensemble, which includes Alvaro Benavides on electric bass, Jhair Sala on percussion, and Ariacne Trujillo on piano and vocals.

A concert to celebrate the release of ICONOCLAST‘s eighth CD, “Dirty Jazz” (Fang Records). ICONOCLAST is a duo comprised of Julie Joslyn (alto saxophone, violin, live electronics, vocals) and Leo Ciesa (drums, percussion, keyboards, vocals). ICONOCLAST’s music and performance is known for its bold and distinctive sound and for its intensity, physicality and “larger than duo” impact. Acoustic and electronic sounds exist side by side as the music moves between improvisation and composition without stylistic limitation.

Melodic, psychedelic, and inventive lo-fi guitars blend with whispery, multi-layered vocals, and sensible pop melodies on The Wagner Logic, the self-titled sophomore follow-up to The Wagner Logic’s 2007 debut release Easiest To Grab. Self-produced in the dark basement of a small cabin located in a quiet fishing town called Kasilof in Alaska, the songs on The Wagner Logic offer dark and dysfunctional tales of heartache, regret, and loss. Originally formed in 2000 as a four-track recording project between childhood friends James Glaves and band namesake Jeremy Wagner, this basement duo released its latest album on September 14th, 2010.
