1. Azam Ali

The Iranian-born, Indian-raised Azam Ali has one of the most seductive and effortlessly disciplined contemporary voices. Sublimely interpreted through ultra-modern beats and ambient drones, the traditional and contemporary songs of this unique vocalist smolder with dreamy longing and express the grief of exiles. They also soar with a keen edge of hope. She has already recorded three solo albums. Her new CD, From Night to the Edge of Day (released by Six Degrees Records), explores Iranian, Turkish, Lebanese, and Kurdish lullabies. As lead singer with Niyaz, an Iranian musical trio, she collaborates in creating acoustic electronic music for the 21st century. She has also worked with, among others, the percussionist Mickey Hart, and the rock bands System of a DownNine Inch Nails, and King Crimson. For the Live@365 concert, she is accompanied by Ramin Loga Torkian on lafta, a Turkish lute, and kamaan, a bowed lute; Nasser Musa Janinion on the oud, a plucked lute; MISSING NAME on percussion; and Sheila Hanigin on cello. This event is part of the new world music series Live@365.

2. DAWOUD

Dawoud began to play the guitar about half a year or so after Jimi Hendrix died. Shortly afterwards he expanded his listening tastes into jazz, fusion, classical, blues, and Indian raga. His teens were spent honing his guitar skills. On his 18th birthday, he bought his sitar and began teaching himself the rudiments of the instrument from books and recordings. Between 1979-83. Dawoud toured the Midwest US with Focal Poynt as multi-instrumentalist, composer. He also began teaching guitar and learning audio engineering. In 1983, he moved to New York City, and did work as a musician and musical director locally and toured with a number of local rock groups.

The mixing of genres and blend of the experimental and traditional is at the core of producer, songwriter and vocalist, Derin Young’s unique sound and vibe. As both a vocalist, working with numerous musicians including, Lenny Kravitz, rock band, Living Colour and French rapper, MC Solaar, and as leader of her own ensembles, Derin Young has forged a new world of musical expression and freedom. Derin is now producing content for her own projects, including performances and recordings with guest musicians under the concept name, ‘dei 7 free range music’, having released a first single recording of her composition entitled, “Early Evening”, and a new release, “Falling” both available on iTunes and at amazon.com.
