Composer Adam Rudolph returns with another series of Go: Organic Orchestraat Roulette. In concert he will conduct between 20 – 35 musicians in a spontaneous way, using a newly created score of music/letter grids, language themes, tone rows, traditional and synthetic scales, diadic and intervalic harmonies, The compositions will also utilize Rudolph’s rhythm concept of “Cyclic Verticalism” to generate form and weave what he calls an “audio syncretic music fabric”. The music is “organic” in the sense that the compositions and conducting exist as an inspiration and context for the musicians to express themselves by using their instruments as an amplifier for their inner voice.

Dafna Naphtali is a versatile sound-artist, composer. singer and guitarist. She has been an active and eclectic performer since the mid-90’s, performing and composing using her custom Max/MSP programming for sound processing of voice and other instruments.

The boundless musician, composer, bandleader, writer, speaker, and activist Marc Ribot was born in Newark and as a teen played guitar in garage bands while studying with Haitian classical guitarist and composer Frantz Casseus. Marc has since played /toured/recorded with (to name just a few) Laurie Anderson, Chuck Berry, Solomon Burke, T-Bone Burnett, Vinicius Cantuaria, James Carter, Elvis Costello, Marianne Faithfull, most recently on Alison Krauss and Robert Plant’s Grammy-winning “Raising Sand.” Marc also leads several groups of his own, including Los Cubanos Postizos, the Marc Ribot Trio, and more. He has both scored and played on scores of many films and documentaries.

Yaron Kohlberg, born in Jerusalem in 1983, is the winner of many prestigious international prizes and performs worldwide to critical acclaim. This season you may find him performing in Paris, London, India, the Philippines, Singapore, Austria, Finland, Denmark, Chicago, New York, and at home in Israel.
American violinist Madalyn Parnas has firmly established her place on the concert stage as both a brilliant and charismatic soloist and a gifted chamber musician with a rare and exceptional sensitivity. Born in 1991 this young artist has already performed more than forty concertos in the US with orchestra, and is now preparing for her upcoming Russian, Swiss, and French debuts.
With equal passion Madalyn has devoted her energy to chamber music performing with sister cellist Cicely as duo parnas since 1997. Their extraordinary achievements include winning 1st prize in international chamber music competition at Carnegie Hall, releasing two internationally acclaimed CDs, and performing 21st century compositions written for them by award-winning composers. Of one such piece played in Symphony Space, a New York Times review read, “The duo parnas gave the piece an electrifying reading, couching it in a lush tone and executing its complex interplay with pinpoint precision.”
Born in 1993, cellist Cicely Parnas is one of the finest young artists performing today, a unique presence on the concert stage recognized for her highly individualized sound, exquisite tone, and spontaneous creativity fueled by an affable fearlessness. Cicely began cello studies at age four, and made her orchestral debut at nine. Since then Cicely has performed over thirty times as guest soloist with orchestra, including the New York String Orchestra conducted by master musician and conductor, Jaime Laredo, and David Alan Miller’s Albany Symphony. Three of Cicely’s concerto performances have been presented on WQXR’s “McGraw Hill Young Artist Showcase” in New York, and she has claimed six 1st prizes in national and regional soloist competitions.

Afrobeat, hip-hop, reggae, and dub intersect tonight at Akim Funk Buddha’s Afro Soul Connection. Akim has championed the global influences of hip-hop from the get-go, and that’s evident tonight, with sets from Afrobeat all-stars Kaleta, Amayo (Antibalas’ singer), drummer Swiss Chris (who’s backed up John Legend), and JahFurry’s RubaDub Posse, which boasts Kochie Banton and Bigga Haitian. Akim himself plays a headlining set, with more support from Soul Train dancer Tyrone Proctor and the 2010 House Dance International Wacking champion, Princess Lockeroo.

In 2005, an all-star quartet including saxophonists Scott Robinson and Marshall Allen recorded in a cow pasture at Space Farms in NJ, utilizing the incredible tower of huge antique cast-iron bells standing there. The resulting CD, Live at Space Farms, was issued earlier this year. Tonight this group reconvenes, with special guest Henry Grimes added, for a set of freewheeling and far-reaching improvised music which will incorporate the recorded sounds of the bells of Space Farms.

Amir Vahab performs ecsolkloretatic songs with the poetry of Rumi, Hafez, Yunus Emre and a wide ranging folkloric songs from Iran, Turkey and Azerbaijan.
Amir Vahab and his Ensemble will perform songs selected from the poetry of the great Sufi Masters Rumi, Hafez, Yunus Emre as well as folkloric songs from different parts of Iran, Turkey and Azerbaijan. The lively folk and traditional music featuring the etherial sounding Ney (mystical reed flute), Oud/Ud (the short neck lute), Tanbur (ancient three-stringed long-necked lute), Saz (seven-stringed long neck lute), Daf/Def (large frame drum associated with Sufi rituals), Dohol/Davul (Double-headed folk drum used most often in celebrations) and Tombak (Persian goblet drum). The concert concludes with a dynamic drumming performance that echoes the universal heartbeat of existence.

Award-winning Kenny Endo celebrates his 35th year of Japanese taiko drumming, touring with an all-star cast of musicians from Japan and the US. Endo is a leading force in contemporary taiko performance, synthesizing traditional Japanese music, Western percussion, and influences from world cultures. His program features the NY premiere of Gateway—’Ma’ vs Groove, other original works, and traditional music.
He is joined by Hitoshi Hamada (vibraphones), Kaoru Watanabe (flutes), Shoko Hikage (koto-zither), and Tadayoshi Yasuda (shamisen-lute).

Deidre Rodman is an Idaho native, mother, singer/songwriter, and former circus musician. In addition, Deidre has three jazz CDs out on the Sunnyside label, and recently released a new pop EP, Circle. She also sings and plays keyboard with children’s band/all-girl band The Itty Biddies/Lascivious Biddies in conjunction with Carnegie Hall’s CarnegieKids/Musical Connections program. Elvis Costello has hailed her as “a wonderful pianist and a delicate composer with a truly unique voice.
