Ambassador Abdullah Hussain Haroon and Pakistani Peace Builders Initiative will host the 1st Annual New York Sufi Music Festival. The Mohatta Palace Museum has played the key curatorial role in gathering this unprecedented selection of Sufi musicians from throughout Pakistan for this historic celebration. The New York Sufi Festival is presented in association with Asia Society and Rubin Museum.
An all-star group of musicians from Pakistan’s key provinces perform for three hours, including:
* Pakistan’s living legend Abida Parveen
* Akhtar Chanal Zehri from Balochistan
* Soung Faqirs from the Sachal Sarmast Shrine in Sindh
* Rafaqat Ali Khan, representing the Shaam Chaurasi Gharana in Punjab

Chicago’s Occidental Brothers Dance Band Int’l are pleased to announce a new collaboration with Congolese music legend, the great Samba Mapangala! Playing the best-loved songs from both artists’ repertoires, the group is now also playing new songs that fuse together all their strengths.
The Occidental Brothers’ blend of high-energy soukous, rootsy Ghananian Highlife and African Jazz conjures sounds of the golden age of the African guitar band and has made them favorites of of music critics and devotees of the style, but it’s a sound that has also seduced an audience of listeners as diverse as the members of this multi-racial band.

Henry Grimes has played more than 38O concerts in 24 countries, including many festivals, since 2OO3, when he made an astonishing return to the music world after 35 years away. He studied at Juilliard and in his youth played/toured/recorded with Albert Ayler, Don Cherry, Benny Goodman, Coleman Hawkins, Roy Haynes, Steve Lacy, Charles Mingus, Gerry Mulligan, Sonny Rollins, Pharoah Sanders, Archie Shepp, Cecil Taylor, McCoy Tyner… In recent years he’s played/toured/recorded with Rashied Ali, Marshall Allen, Fred Anderson, Marilyn Crispell, Andrew Cyrille, Bill Dixon, Dave Douglas, Paul Dunmall, Andrew Lamb, David Murray, William Parker, Marc Ribot, Cecil Taylor, and many more.
