Transcending the boundaries of genre, composer-percussionist Lukas Ligeti has developed a musical style of his own that draws upon downtown New York experimentalism, contemporary classical music, jazz, electronica, as well as world music, particularly from Africa. Known for his non-conformity and diverse interests, Lukas creates music ranging from the through-composed to the free-improvised, often exploring polyrhythmic/polytempo structures, non-tempered tunings, and non-western elements. Other major sources of inspiration include experimental mathematics, computer technology, architecture and visual art, sociology and politics, and travel. He has also been participating in cultural exchange projects in Africa for the past 15 years.

8:30 –  Sarah Bernstein on violin & Pascal Niggenkemper on bass

SARAH BERNSTEIN is a violinist, composer, improviser, vocalist and poet based in NYC. She leads projects ranging from minimalist/experimental duo Unearthish with Satoshi Takeishi, to avant-noise/improvisation/poetry band Iron Dog with Stuart Popejoy and Andrew Drury, to her String Quartet with Scott Tixier, Mat Maneri and Rubin Kodheli, to the avant-jazz Sarah Bernstein Quartet with Kris Davis, Stuart Popejoy and Ches Smith. She also performs with Anthony Braxton, Adam Rudolph, Dave Scott, Anders Nilsson, Sara Schoenbeck, Stephanie Richards, Emilie Lesbros, Kid Millions and more. Originally from San Francisco, Sarah has lived in Brooklyn since the 1990′s. She holds a BFA in Violin Performance from the California Institute of the Arts and an MA in Jazz Studies from CUNY Queens College.

New York City-based German-French bassist, composer and improviser Pascal Niggenkemper is a performing and recording artist active on the creative music scene in the US and in Europe. From 1999-2005 he was active in the music scene in Cologne having studied jazz & classical double bass at the Hochschule für Musik. In 2005 he received the DAAD award and moved to New York. From 2008 to 2010 Pascal led the PNTrio with Tyshawn Sorey and Robin Verheyen. (CD “pasàpas” Konnex 2008 & “urban creatures” JazzHausMusik 2010). The trio toured extensively in Europe.

10pmChris Pitsiokos, Ron Anderson and Brian Chase

Chris Pitsiokos (b. 1990) is a composer and improvisor who performs primarily on alto saxophone. His improvisation and composition draw on the work of Evan Parker, Jack Wright, John Butcher, John Cage, Richard Barrett, Helmut Lachenmann, Peter Evans, Weasel Walter, and the early work of John Zorn. Since moving to Brooklyn in the summer of 2012 he has had the pleasure and privilege of performing and/or recording with many older members of the avant-garde such as Elliott Sharp, Peter Evans, Sam Pluta, Weasel Walter, Marc Edwards, Kevin Shea, Ron Anderson, Frank Gratkowski, and Tim Dahl. In addition to performing and composing music, Chris runs his own record label, Eleatic Records. On this evening he will be joined by guitarist Ron Anderson and drummer Brian Chase, who will provide thrilling improvisations especially for Freddy’s.

4. Ambient-Chaos presents Pas Musique

PAS Musique started in 1995 out of Brooklyn, NY, USA, driven by the creative talents of Robert L. Pepper working in the mediums of sound and video. Since then PAS has evolved into a collective with many different instrumentations and lineups. Permanent members include Amber Brien, Jon Worthley, Michael Durek, and Robert L. Pepper. Guests and occasional collaborators include, Brett Zweiman, David Tamura, Jim Tuite, Brandstifter, Robin Storey, Philippe Petit, ZEV!, HATI, Steve Beresford, Will Seesar, Matt Chilton (Vultures), Anthony Donovan (Vultures), Al Margolis, and many others.

PAS have released 10 full length releases and have been on several compilations throughout the years. Some of these can be found on www.alrealonmusique.com, www.cdbaby.com or iTunes. PAS have performed in 13 countries and all throughout the United States. Sound and video installations have also included Chile and the United States. PAS have also performed at Fausts Avant Garde Festival 2009 and 2010, the 18th Olympia Experimental Festival in Washington, the 2010 Spark Festival in Minneapolis, and the 2011 CoCArt Festival in Torun Poland.

Yacouba Diabate And Dounouya Band is currently playing throughout New York City. They have performed in several different venues throughout the United States and Europe, including the United Nations in 2008 and 2009. He frequents many different Music venues in New York City, collaborating with artists such as Les Nubion, Ounou Sangoue, and Sekouba Banbino. He was also a permanent band member at the Saint Nick’s Pub. In Europe, Yacouba has traveled to countries such as France, Germany, and many others.
