1. Shahzad Ismaily

Shahzad Ismaily solo on bass and electronics. He was born to Pakistani immigrant parents and grew up in a wholly bicultural household. While he holds a masters degree in biochemistry from Arizona State University, he is a largely self-taught composer and musician, having mastered the electric and double bass, guitar, banjo, accordion, flute, drums, various percussion instruments and various analog synthesizers and drum machines. Ismaily has recorded or performed with an incredibly diverse assemblage of musicians.

Tyshawn Sorey ((drums, synthesizer, piano, trombone, iPod, melodica). He’s performing music from his solo and traditional repertoire, including Jewish music and a standard or two.

3. Mikarimba

Mikarimba featuring: Mika Yoshida (marimba), Steve Gadd (drums), Eddie Gomez (bass), Stefan Karlsson (keyboard).
Mika Yoshida hails from Amakusa Island, Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan and resides in New York City. She studied at the University of Toronto and since graduation has devoted herself to marimba performance and musical studies under the strong influence of the NEXUS.  She also studies jazz privately with jazz vibe master, Mike Mainieri, in New York.

She has released two Solo CDs:  ‘Mitsue’ (1998) and ‘Marimba Phase’ (2003).  Her newly released album, ”Mikarimba” (VideoArt Music Japan 2010) and DVD ”Mika Marimba Madness” (Big Round Music) were both produced by Steve Gadd.

Erykah Badu (born Erica Abi Wright on February 26, 1971 in Dallas, Texas) is an American R&B/neo-soul artist whose work crosses over into jazz. She is best known for her singles “You Got Me” her collaboration with The Roots, as well as her own songs “Tyrone”, “Love Of My Life”, “On & On”, “Bag Lady”, “The Healer”, “Honey” and “Soldier”. Her lyrics are highly personal urban philosophy which throw emotional challenges in the face of the listener. She weaves unusual musical influences together creating a rich texture of sound.
Adrian Younge: multi-instrumentalist Adrian Younge makes his debut on Wax Poetics Records with his original score to the Michael Jai White comedy Black Dynamite. Inspired by the great blaxploitation soundtracks of the 1970s, Younge commands the Rhodes electric piano, Hammond organ, Hohner Clavinet, harpsichord, synthesizer, vibraphone, guitar, bass, flute, sax, cello, and drums, crafting with a singular vision.

5. English Beat

Hailing from working-class Birmingham, England, Dave Wakeling  and The English Beat entered the music scene in the 1979. When The English Beat rushed on to the music scene in 1979, it was a time of social, political and musical upheaval. Into this storm came they came, trying to calm the waters with their simple message of love and unity set to a great dance Beat.

The six member band consisted of singer/songwriter Dave Wakeling (vocals & guitar), Andy Cox (guitar), David Steele (bass), Everett Morton (drums), Saxa (saxophone) and Ranking Roger (toasting). The band managed to fuse all of their respective musical influences – soul, reggae, pop and punk – into a unique sound that was highly danceable. Along with contemporaries such as The Specials, The Selecter and Madness, The English Beat became one of the most popular and influential bands of the British Ska movement.

6. Headtronics featuring Steve Molitz , DJ Logic, and Freekbass

Spawned at last summer’s Universal Church of Love and Music Funk Festival, brand-spankin’-new funk trio, Headtronics, gave funk fans a taste of their collaborative efforts this past April. Named by legendary funk bassist Bootsy Collins, Headtronics consists of three of today’s best touring funk musicians, including Freekbass (7 time Cincinnati music award winner), turntablist extraordinaire DJ Logic, and keyboardist Steve Molitz (Particle, Phil Lesh and Friends).
