Music Docu Film Kickstarter Campaign: “INNER-ATTUNEMENT – Hamid Drake & William Parker”

Inner Attunement is a documentary film by Michael Lucio Sternbach about the musical brotherhood of bassist William Parker and drummer Hamid Drake. Known worldwide as of one of the premier rhythm sections of jazz, the two discuss their musical kinship and the shamanistic sound ceremonies they deploy worldwide. Inner Attunement is a comprehensive look into their music, which becomes a conversation about the substantial lessons we learn in life.

THE PROJECT

We need you to get involved! FIRE MUSIC, a documentary that tells the criminally ignored true history of the Free Jazz revolution, has been fully researched and has been shooting for over 4 years. Over 300 hours of footage has already been shot.

“Free Jazz is liberation, is the excitement of the new and now,” says Thurston Moore, executive producer of FIRE MUSIC. “It is with respect, passion and knowledge that Tom Surgal captures the significance of it. His work, like its subject, shines for the collective call of beauty and unity.”

Why I am making PROFILED?

In June 2012 a police officer killed Shantel Davis, a young African-American woman, through the open window of her car. It happened in Flatbush, a Brooklyn neighborhood near where I live. Distraught residents described hearing the fatal shots and watching officers drag Davis’ bleeding body onto the street, where they left her to die.

New York/ Canadian composer  Sylvain Leroux achieved what many told him was impossible: he raised $25,000 to conduct a four-month experimental music education project in Guinea. After the successful Kickstarter campaign, Sylvain arrived in Conakry, Guinea this February and used his invention, the chromatic tambin (an updated version of the local traditional tambin–or Fula flute) to teach a group of children to read and write music.
