Date: Thursday, May 14, 2015
Time: 7pm
Venue: The Grand Victory (245 Grand St, Brooklyn, NY)
Ticket: $10
Genre: indie rock/heavy metal noise/punk

Cinema Cinema was established in 2008 when two Brooklyn-born and -raised cousins, Ev Gold and Paul Claro, joined forces. With Gold seamlessly intertwining guitar, pedals, and vocals, and Claro laying down a ferocious foundation, a new sound burst forth from the seeds of no-wave and hardcore.

Throughout the past six years, the two have financed and managed their own D.I.Y. touring schedule, playing over 350 shows, more than 30 U.S. states, and seven different countries.

Some of their most rewarding moments include five  American tours  with Greg Ginn (SST Records), opening multiple shows for Black Flag in their home city of Brooklyn, as well as touring Europe  with world-renowned producer Martin Bisi.

AWJITA: The band chooses to call this tumultuous sound Grungy ArtGroove, wrought with a metallic density that baits its listeners with catchiness and improvisational grooves. Smooth and purposeful shifts in style, delving into sludge, punk, funk, psychedelia, and free jazz, form the progressive nature that is distinctly…Awjita. Digging their knives into your funny bone and twisting at will, their songs tell dark, tongue-in-cheek stories by way of earth-laden vocals that often find themselves in a whirlwind of hard rock intensity.

8. Tipsy Oxcart CD Release w/ Karikatura

Date: Thursday, May 14, 2015
Time: 9:15pm – 11:45pm
Venue: Rockwood Music Hall (196 Allen St, New York, New York 10002)
Ticket: $12
Genre: cumbia meets hip-hop, reggae meets klezmer and indie-rock meets afrobeat/Balkan Beat

Karikatura makes life-affirming, body-shaking music that moves people around the world. While the band has toured everywhere from Japan to Brazil, New York City is home. With bright horns, socially conscious lyrics and booty-bouncing beats, Karikatura delivers real songs that transcend style and genre. An organic synthesis of all the music heard blasting out of car windows and shops onto the streets of NYC, Karikatura lives where cumbia meets hip-hop, reggae meets klezmer and indie-rock meets afrobeat. Neither purist nor revivalist, this is music of the present, for the future. http://karikaturanyc.com/

Tipsy Oxcart plays electric, sweaty, bumpin’ Balkan music, channeling the spirit of 36 hour weddings to keep the crowds dancing until the sun comes up. Serving up originals and fresh, upbeat arrangements of urban dance tunes, the band deviously infuses the sounds of South-Eastern Europe with elements of jazz, funk, and more. Dig naughty violin solos, atomic accordion grooves, freak-me-out clarinet, and the baddest rhythm section this side of the Mediterranean. A party with Tipsy Oxcart is guaranteed to shake the dance floor all night long!
