Composer Adam Rudolph returns with another series of Go: Organic Orchestra to Shapeshifter. In concert he will conduct between 20 – 35 musicians in a spontaneous way, using a newly created score of music/letter grids, language themes, tone rows, traditional and synthetic scales, diadic and intervalic harmonies, The compositions will also utilize Rudolph’s rhythm concept of “Cyclic Verticalism” to generate form and weave what he calls an “audio syncretic music fabric”. The music is “organic” in the sense that the compositions and conducting exist as an inspiration and context for the musicians to express themselves by using their instruments as an amplifier for their inner voice.

6-piece jazz ensemble Carte Blanche keeps vintage standards white-hot with classic French, Latin and American jazz standards from the 1920s, 30s and 40s.

Carte Blanche has become a familiar late-night act. The 6-piece ensemble in white silk and sequins has gathered a following who love them for their look as much as their commitment to preserving the standards of a bygone era. Lead vocalist Cristina Kaminis gives the group a sound in the tradition of jazz greats Edith Piaf, Ella Fitzgerald, and Lola Beltran. But as effortlessly as Kaminis transitions from classics of chanson realiste-era Paris to Brazil’s sultry bossa novas, her native Mexico shines through on the bands Cuban son tracks, and the danceable, percussion-driven dance rhythms of vintage Colombian cumbia.

The Ladybugs is an NYC- based traditional jazz harmony group known for their intricate harmonies and experimental arrangements. Lead by Martina DaSilva, all members of the band sing while playing ukulele, guitar, trumpet, bass and drums. TheLadybugs’ fare is standard favorites from the 20s, 30s and 40s, infused with old-school blues and dash of klezmer flavor. Popular among audiences as diverse as lindy hoppers to modern jazz lovers, the Ladybugs’ sweet and infectious sounds will keep your toes tapping.

York’s last two musical adventures, Water Water Everywhere, (commissioned by the Robert Rauschenburg Foundation, and presented at Joe’s Pub 2013) and Jump, (produced by the Public the Theater for the Under the Radar Festival, 2011) embraced Baroque and Classical operatic musical sources. Praised by the London Evening Standard as a “huge talent” and by Gulf News as a “world-class musician who excels at blending the best of Western and Middle-Eastern compositions,” pianist Tara Kamangar’s repertoire ranges from Bach and Beethoven to rarely heard works by Iranian composers of the past century. She has premiered numerous piano works in renowned venues across the United States and Europe, including the U.S. premiere of Aminollah Hossein’s Concerto No. 2 to a capacity audience of over 3,000 at Oakland’s Paramount Theatre and the world premiere of Naji Hakim’s Esquisses Persanes pour Piano (Edition Schott) at the Shepherd School of Music. Other orchestral engagements have included Saint-Saëns’ Second Piano Concerto with conductor Loris Tjeknavorian and Beethoven’s Triple Concerto and Rachmaninoff’s Paganini Rhapsody with conductor Michael Morgan. An avid composer with a background in ethnomusicology, Tara wrote the original score for the prizewinning documentary “Fifi Howls from Happiness” (France/Iran), called one of the best films of 2013 by Le Monde, and has incorporated Kurdish folk music into her classical compositions.

Tara’s Delos release “East of Melancholy,” recorded at Skywalker Sound by producer and Grammy® winning engineer Leslie Ann Jones, juxtaposes works by Russian composers influenced by folk music from the Caucasus, with rarely performed pieces by Iranian, Armenian, and Tajik composers born in twentieth-century Iran. There has been a considerable interchange of musical inspiration in this region, given that much of the Caucasus was under Persian rule until as recently as the mid-nineteenth century. An honors graduate of Harvard University and London’s Royal Academy of Music, Tara resides in New York City.
