Originally from Germany,  Ingrid Laubrock has been living in the UK since 1989 and is now residing in Brooklyn. She performed and recorded with: Anthony Braxton, Dave Douglas, Kenny Wheeler, Tim Berne, Mark Helias, Michael Formanek, Mary Halvorson, Tyshawn Sorey, Evan Parker, Steve Beresford, John Edwards, Veryan Weston, Luc Ex, Django Bates’ Human Chain, Evan Parker, The Continuum Ensemble and others.

2. Matt Lavelle SoLo and BoOk ReAdIng. . . . .

8:30 –  Matt Lavelle solo (trumpet, alto clarinet, plus reading from his book NYC Subway Drama and beyond)
Matt Lavelle then made his move on New York City to go through the trials of all new Jazz musicians, and played Straight-ahead Jazz until 1995. When he relocated to Kingston New York, and immersed himself in the study of the Bass-clarinet, keeping the trumpet going, creating the only known successful double of these 2 challenging instruments. Lavelle returned to New York seeking out what is known as the Downtown community in 1999, which he has been a member of to this day (2009). Along the way Lavelle has played with William Parker, which also consisted of a tour in Sardinia Italy, Sabir Mateen, consisting of a tour of Northern Italy, and also toured in Scotland with an improvisation collective known as Eye Contact. Lavelle began study with Jazz Legend Ornette Coleman in 2005, having huge impact and transformational impact on the musician, also resulting in the addition of the Alto Clarinet as another voice. Matt also was the key in the return and resurgence of Jazz legend Giuseppi Logan, playing on and producing his comeback record after a 40 year absence. With over 10 appearances as a sideman on record, Lavelle has 4 records released with himself as a leader>

10pm – ban(ne)d books: Steve Dalachinsky – voice &  Carver Audain – electronics

Steve Dalachinsky was born in New York City after the “BIG” war and in between lots of little wars, and that is where he still resides. He has been widely published in magazines and journals both in the US and abroad and has been translated into French, German and Japanese. His works appear extensively on the internet and he has several chapbooks out, of which the latest are “One Thin Line” (Pinched Nerves Press),
“Subway Assemblages” (JVC Books) and “Trio” (40 Winks Press). His poems appear in such journals as Long Shot Magazine, Blue Beat Jacket, Downtown Poets, Beat Indeed, Writers Outside the Margin, The Outlaw Bible of American Poetry, and A Gathering of the Tribes. He has a CD on Knitting Records entitled “Incomplete Directions” and two collections of his work were due out in 2001.
He has written liner notes for the CDs of many prominent musicians, including Anthony Braxton, Rashied Ali, Matthew Shipp, and James Blood Ulmer to name but a few.
This evening he will be accompanied by Carver Audain on electronics.

3. Falu w. Slavic Soul Party & Zikrayat

Genre: Indian classical and folk music plus modern flare of acoustic instrumentation

India born, New York-based songstress Falu is set to release her highly anticipated album Foras Road on May 28. Taking its name from the oldest red-light district in the Indian city of Mumbai, Foras Road captures the enduring musical traditions and cultural history of India’s centuries-old brothels, and was produced by Grammy-Award winning producer Danny Blume (Jewel, Lisa Loeb). Singing in seven different South Asian languages throughout the album, Falu blends Indian classical and folk music with her own original compositions, plus adds a modern flare of acoustic instrumentation. Each song explores themes of womanhood, romance, longing, love, and loss, while shedding light on the hardships of being a courtesan during those times.

For two nights Bigmouth will perform a new batch of music by Chris Lightcap, commissioned by Chamber Music America and premiered at the 2012 Earshot Jazz Festival. 5. Terry Dame’s Weird Wednesday’s Episode 5 – Weird Strings

he May edition of Weird Wednesday presents new music for weird strings featuring guest artist weirdos Ben Simon and Hans Tammen and introducing the new monthly segment “60 Seconds of Weirdness”.
Ben Simon will play a set of songs on his homemade one-man-band guitar. Components in the guitar include: a Yamaha keyboard from 1990, Boss dr rhythm drum machine from 1986, novelty sound effects, mic, mixer, reverb and 20 watt Pignose amp.
Han Tammen produces rapid-fire juxtapositions of radically contrastive and fascinating noises with his “Endangered Guitar”. From micro-polyphonic timbres and textures, and aggressive sonic eruptions to quiet pulses and barely audible sounds be prepared for an otherworldly sonic journey.
As always there will be a little offering from yours truly, curator, host and chief weirdo Terry Dame.

As diverse and kinetic as the city they call home, Kwame & the Uptown Shakedown have been perfecting their unique blend of soulful rock n’roll since they formed in 2009. A true product of New York City, their music reflects the passion, the energy and the sounds of the city. They stand out – as a multicultural, multigenerational collective whose influences span soul, blues, classic rock, reggae and R+B.

For the Second time at Terraza 7 we’ll have the great honor of having self-taught composer, arranger, guitarist and singer Javier Ruibal, an innovative of the musical and poetical language who has directly influenced part of the “Nueva música flamenca.” His music and texts are cautiously written which is something characteristic of him as well as his guitar execution, which is full of personality and force. The qualities of his voice allow him to fully express with freedom the sonorities of flamenco, the music from Magreb, India and the Caribbean.Ruibal has composed music for several other Spanish artists and famous singers such as Ana Belén and David Broza, among others, and who have sung his compositions. He also appeared on stage together with artists such as Pablo Milanés, Joaquín Sabina and Carlos Cano. In 2007, he was awarded the Medal of Andalusia by the autonomous government of Andalusia. The acclaimed experimental music ensemble Either/Or presents its 8th annual Spring Festival of contemporary chamber music at The Kitchen. Ranging from ‘post-rock reverie’ to Western swing and drawing on E/O’s unique instrumentation including cimbalom, komungo, and cracked analog organs, the 2013 Festival maps a broad cross-section of the ensemble’s aesthetic interests – exploring the intersection of American experimentalism and the European avant-garde.
