Please jin RAHA Iranian Women’s Collective for a community celebration of 100 years of International Women’s Day!
Now more than ever, it is time to build bridges between women’s communities – our celebration will gather folks from across the city to recognize and celebrate one hundred years of strength, solidarities, and struggle.
They will screen two very short documentaries – one of the historic 1979 International Women’s Day march in Tehran that drew women from around Iran and around the world, and another that takes a look the 2006 Million Signatures Campaign, which mobilized women across Iran to gather signatures in support of ending discriminatory laws against women.
The screenings will be followed by a community discussion of the films, of International Women’s Day, and the connections for and amongst ourselves as activists and feminists here in New York City.
Featured guests:
Parvin Ardalan – Million Signatures Campaign
Bitta Mostofi – Where is My Vote – NY
Valeria Treves – New Immigrant Community Empowerment
Eesha Pandit – Raising Women’s Voices
Gayatri Gopinath – Associate Professor, Program Director, Gender and Sexuality Studies, NYU
Gabriela Villareal – New York Immigration Coalition
(A group of Iranian feminists have put out a Call for Solidarity around the world – to organize initiatives throughout March in support of their demand to end state-led violence and repression, as well as the immediate release of all political detainees in Iran.)
