The 2015 METRO Curates opens this Week at the Metropolitan Pavilion in Chelsea

Forum Gallery Metro Curates will take place January 22-25 with an opening night preview on Wednesday evening, January 21.

The fair offers a dynamic mix of genres throughout history. From abstract art to ethnographic, from outsider to Pop Art, folk art to decorative arts, the fair’s message is one of inclusion – that great ideas, great art and great design are best when presented creatively side by side in an integrated fashion.

Each of the fair’s participating galleries presents either a curated single-artist or themed exhibit of artwork. New participants this year include: Forum Gallery, American Garage, Scott Jacobson Gallery, Adelson Galleries and Tambaran Gallery, among others.

A panel discussion titled Past to Present: Design Beyond the Boundaries will take place on Thursday morning at 10am. The panel will be moderated by Wendy Goodman, the interiors editor of New York magazine. The panel will feature Antonino Buzzetta, Sara Gilbane and Patrick Mele, three of the hottest go-to authorities on design today. In keeping with its celebration of living with art in all its forms, renowned designer, author and collector Jack Lenor Larsen will be presenting the LongHouse Award for Design Excellence for best booth design immediately following the panel.

The 2015 Metro Dialogues educational series is organized around the theme Curating without Borders, and covers a wide range of topics–from the vast world of important art made by anonymous folk artists–to a very specific presentation on an upcoming documentary film about African-American artist Bill Traylor, whose work will be shown at a major retrospective exhibition in spring 2018 at the Smithsonian Museum. In addition will be a talk on the rapidly up and coming field of Vernacular Photography, a talk on the powerful and intriguing contemporary artist Kirk Mangus, an important panel on the art and design of the Quilt and two long, overdue talks on the world wide expanding parameters of Art Brut. The series will take place on Friday, January 23 and Saturday, January 24.
