Williamsburg Brooklyn in the summer. Nothing like it; a perfect night to hear some live music. On this night, I ventured into Spike Hill to hear BT3 .

Toronto-based, progressive, power-pop trio Ménage features three siblings, Basilio Fernando (guitar/vocals), Bela (keyboard/vocals), and Gabriel (drums/percussion) Ferreira. With family based in a small town in Portugal, the three Ferreira siblings combined their traditional roots with worldly experiences and those spent with their parents’ extensive vinyl collection during long Canadian winters, establishing the eclectic but accessible sound of Ménage.
Menage released the radio-friendly, anthemic track, “Our Time is Now,” an introduction to their forthcoming EP, the second in a series of four mini EP’s, due out October 14, 2014. This gleaned two nominations at the International Portuguese Music Awards in Massachusetts in March of 2014, as well as wins for Rock Song of the Year at the International Portuguese Music Awards (presented by guitarist Nuno Bettencourt (Rihanna, Extreme)). The song’s momentous feedback led to performances at Portugal Week 2014 alongside Deolinda (EMI Portugal) in Toronto, Portugal Day in NYC’s Central Park, and Portugal Day Montreal, Canada. Ménage was also requested to perform at Toronto’s Portuguese Walk of Ceremonies in the heart of the city’s downtown core, and received significant airplay on various college radio stations and specialty radio shows throughout the US.

Kali Z. Fasteau is an accomplished composer and multi-instrumentalist, having traveled all over the world learning and playing various woodwind and string instruments and absorbing the music of the many places she has lived and created. On Piano Rapture, she returns to her first instrument, presenting nearly an hour of spontaneous compositions for both solo piano and small ensemble. Her collaborators on this project include reed players Kidd Jordan, L. Mixashawn Rozie, and J.D. Parran; and percussionist Ron McBee.

Mitra Farahani’s lyrical documentary explores the enigma of provocative artist Bahman Mohassess, the so-called “Persian Picasso,” whose acclaimed paintings and sculptures dominated pre-revolutionary Iran. Irreverent and uncompromising, a gay man in a hostile world, Mohassess had a conflicted relationship with his homeland—revered by elites in the art scene and praised as a national icon, only to be censored later by an oppressive regime. Known for his iconoclastic art as well as his scathing declarations, Mohasses abandoned the country over 30 years ago for a simple, secluded life in Italy.

Weasel Walter (first name, last name) is a Brooklyn, New York based multi-instrumentalist, composer and improviser best known for leading the seminal punk-jazz/no-wave/brutal-prog band The Flying Luttenbachers between 1991 and 2007 on 16 full-length releases.
Seamlessly uniting the intensity and abstraction of improvised music with the nihilist aesthetics of extreme rock forms, Walter is committed to violent momentum, idiomatic unpredictability and rapid articulation.
