Let me introduce a new Iranian-Turkish music and poetry project from Brooklyn, New York: Linebreak.

They performed their second show  at Zora Art Space  Friday July 24, 2010 which is located at 315 4th Avenue (between 3rd and 2nd streets in Park Slope, Brooklyn) and is just a blok away from the DooBeeDooBeeDoo office. Zora Art Space is run by Zohreh Shayesteh, an Iranian movie director herself.

Featuring Sinan Gündoğdu (Turkey), Aida Shahghasemi (Iran) and Sara Goudarzi (Iran), Linebreak is a trio that “uses poetry as a springboard to create fresh music—with Persian and Mediterranean influences—while staying indebted to the ancient art of recitation. The ensemble takes listeners on a journey that could be reflective, joyous and the many notes in between.”

Shahghasemi’s, who is a student of Parissa,  melancolic vocals and expressive and energetic percussion on the daf, accented by Goudarzi’s traditional and rhythmic recitations are highlighted by Gündoğdu’s sensetive and expressive playing on the saz, oud, and guitar.

They performed two sets of poetry and music, and Goudarzi recited in Farsi various Persian poets, such as Jalāl ad-Dīn Muḥammad Balkhī (Rumi), Baba Taher, Shams e Maghrebi, and Mohammad-Reza Shafiei Kadkani, among others.

Besides  Sara Goudarzi is also the editor of the on-line journal of literarture, art and ideas /ONE/
