One of the freshest and most exciting voices on the New York jazz scene, Kevin Farrell remains one of the east coast’s best kept secrets. Although Kevin is a widely in-demand musician whose acoustic and electric bass playing has graced bandstands all over the world, he has still managed to produce an enormous amount of music as a composer and a bandleader. Performing with luminaries such as Wadada Leo Smith, Vinny Golia and Bennie Maupin.
Sameer Gupta is known as one of the few percussionists simultaneously representing the traditions of American jazz on drumset, and Indian classical music on tabla. He has held workshops on Indian music and cross over drumming styles, at Carnegie Hall Global Encounters, The Jazzschool in Berkeley and Berklee College of Music in Boston. By combining traditional and modern improvisational styles drawing from his Indian heritage and American roots, Sameer has already established himself as an original musical voice in jazz, world, and fusion music. From bebop to avant-garde jazz, and European classical percussion to North Indian classical tabla, Gupta continues to compose and perform music from a true multi-cultural perspective that now bridges several continents.
Guitarist Ben Tyree is a performer and composer of virtuosic ability, infectious groove, and eclectic tastes. All of those elements are placed on stunning display on his latest release, Burn It! LIVE, a blistering live set from the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s prestigious BAMcafé Live series. That versatility has led to work with artists as diverse as Vernon Reid, Kyp Malone (TV On The Radio), Valerie June, Elliott Sharp, and Burnt Sugar: The Arkestra Chamber.
