Genre: Punk/noise/heavy metal
Mountain Man (Worcester, MA) Punk/hardcore band. Ex-members of Last Lights. For fans of Panic, Neurosis and American Nightmare.
Netherlands (Brooklyn) “Netherlands rejects restraint in favor of maximum impact: shredding chops, soaring vocals, and maddening hooks. Following Ellis’ mission statement of making music that is equally “light-hearted, brutal, ecstatic”, Netherlands crushes decades’ worth of bombast into psychotropic nuggets of evil rock bliss. With nods to the dirtbag rituals of 70s heavy metal, the grandeur of 80s arena rock, and the crunch and hooks of 90s alternative.” -Curran Reynolds
Cinema Cinema (Brooklyn) “Since 2008, experi-metal punks Cinema Cinema have jacked up the amps to ear-bleeding-loud levels, destroying DIY dives across the boroughs and beyond with their distorto-drenched post-grunge and damaged-funk assault. Born and raised here in NYC, six-string-slinging beardo Ev Gold and his drummer cuz Paul Claro are Brooklyn diehards to the core, bred on both the seminal punk of SST Records (they’ve toured with the recently reincarnated Black Flag) and D.C. hardcore (their 2012 epic Manic Children and the Slow Aggression was recorded by Don Zientara, whose prior production credits include Minor Threat and Fugazi). Besides covering the holier-than-thou Nirvana and PJ Harvey, CC’s most recent shredder, A Night at the Fights, is an effects-pedal-stomping and time-signature-frenzied anthemic beast, captured in Gowanus at the legendary studio of Martin Bisi (Sonic Youth).” – VILLAGE VOICE, April 2015

In Rick Barry’s award-winning songs there are no secrets. Uncensored and unapologetic, Barry undercuts the rawness of his lyrics with a poetic musicality that adds infinite layers of emotional complexity to his songs. A native of Asbury Park, this “New Jersey visionary” (Star Ledger) cites Bob Dylan as his earliest influence, and there is a distinct thread of lyrical Americana that runs through his songs. His recent work, with its rich instrumentation and slowly unfurling melodies, resonates with 21st-century indie-folk artists like Sufjan Stevens, Damien Rice, or Justin Vernon (Bon Iver). Barry was also the engine behind the acclaimed Night in Progress series at the Saint, a songwriting challenge that provided a vital creative platform for artists like A Great Big World, Allie Moss, April Smith, and Val Emmich, not to mention Barry himself.
