Composer Adam Rudolph returns with another series of Go: Organic Orchestra to Shapeshifter. In concert he will conduct between 20 – 35 musicians in a spontaneous way, using a newly created score of music/letter grids, language themes, tone rows, traditional and synthetic scales, diadic and intervalic harmonies, The compositions will also utilize Rudolph’s rhythm concept of “Cyclic Verticalism” to generate form and weave what he calls an “audio syncretic music fabric”. The music is “organic” in the sense that the compositions and conducting exist as an inspiration and context for the musicians to express themselves by using their instruments as an amplifier for their inner voice.

Drummer, Craig Holiday Haynes turned down a job offer to join r&b great James Browns band, because (at the time) he wanted to play more than commercial music. He wanted to help the world by creating and playing music that was of a more spiritual nature and since he had just started playing with Sun Ra and the Arkestra it made sense to stay there, instead of continuing on the r&b and typical jazz path he was on.
He found Sun Ra to be not only a superior master musician (Sun Ra played with and arranged for Fletcher Henderson, who influenced Duke Ellington) but also a great philosopher, a master of numbers, words, math, an astrologer and a very socially conscious and spiritual being that was seemingly from another world.
Sun Ra was the prime influence for Earth, Wind & Fire and a heavy influence on many more. He spoke of intergalactic travel and the space age, even before NASA and spoke of saving this planet way before it was fashionable. Sun Ra was one of the very first to use a synthesizer and to use electronics in jazz (influencing people like Herbie Hancock and Miles Davis)! This is a tribute to Sun Ra, from Craig Holiday Haynes.

AcquAria is Michela Musolino & Vincenzo Castellana. The rich musical tradition of Sicily includes many songs that speak of the sea, sing its praises or are sung by those whose work connects them to the water. Michela Musolino and Vincenzo Castellana join together to pay tribute to Sicily’s sea. Musolino, a vocalist known for her performances of Sicilian Roots Music, and Castellana, a noted percussionist of the Sicilian drumming tradition, present a theatrical work of song, percussion and recitations which illustrates the intimate connection of Sicily, her history and her culture to the sea which surrounds it. The Music Room of NYC is the perfect ambiance for their performance of Sicilian songs in homage to the sea.
Castellana, who worked with Ennio Morricone , and Musolino, who sang with renown Sicilian singer-songwriter, Pippo Pollina at his United States debut, are excited to be working together to bring Sicilian Music and a bit of Sicily’s sea to New York.

Banned from the Tunisian airwaves, singer-songwriter Emel Mathlouthi’s protest songs became viral sensations, whose fiery lyrics were adapted as anthems for the Tunisian revolution. After being taken up by the Arab Spring revolutionaries and sung on the streets of Tunis, Mathlouthi managed to release the songs on her latest albumKelmti Horra (My Word is Free). She makes a rare New York appearance at World Nomads Tunisia, broadcasting her powerful lyrics and broad base of influences to a new audience. Mathlouthi evokes Joan Baez, Sister Marie Keyrouz and the Lebanese diva Fairouz in her role as an inspired singer, poet and composer who now stands among the great divas of the Arab world.

Underground Horns is a Brooklyn-based brass band playing Afro Funk, Bhangra & New Orleans grooves and beyond. AllAboutJazz called their 2009 debut record Funk Monk“kick-ass dance music…that brushes up against psychedelia…with shots of funky brass juice.” In 2010 they recorded their second album Big Beat which The New York Jazz Record’s Ken Waxman called “an unapologetic party band with brains…with tonal inflections from the Big Easy, central Africa, the Maghreb and the Baltic states.” Underground Horns has performed internationally in Egypt and Germany. Here in New York they’ve made people dance in subway stations, parks and at their numerous dates at venues ranging from Nublu to Lincoln Center, Barbes to Brooklyn Bowl, not to mention last year’s sold out show at 92YTribeca. The band has also played as a marching band, namely at the spectacular NYC Village Halloween Parade.
