Sundar Das is a bansuri flute player who has accompanied many Kirtan singers including Krishna Das, Shyam Das, Wah, David Newman (Durga Das) & Mira and Jai Uttal. Among his accomplishments, Sundar composes soundtracks for multimedia yoga programs and film and he has played flute on a recently Grammy Nominated album. Currently, Sundar plays live flute music for many yoga classes in NYC. He also performs at Buddhist benefits and retreats as well as other yoga gatherings. Sundar has been practicing Yoga and devotional chanting since 1971 and lived in an ashram for 16 years both in the U.S. and in India where music composing, playing and recording was his selfless service.
Anjana Roy comes from Delhi, India, where she had her early initiation in music under Shri Rebati Ranjan Debnath, her father and guru. Anjana studied instrumental music and earned her Masters in Arts from Banasthali Vidyapith of Jaipur, Rajasthan and a Master of Philosophy degree from the University of New Delhi. Ms. Roy eventually settled in New York, where she has taught sitar music at the Shikshayatan Institution in Queens. She has performed at the Queens Conservatory of Music, Brooklyn Public Library, International House, the Indian Consulate and in many private converts. Anjana Roy released an album of Indian classical music on sitar in 2006.

Contemporaneous is a New York-based ensemble of nineteen musicians dedicated to performing and promoting the most exciting music of now. Through concerts, collaborations, recordings, and outreach programs, they have created a thriving community of artists and audience members united by a shared love for the best music being written in our time. Their Arts at The Park debut will include the world premiere of a new large-scale work by the talented and versatile Michael Harrison, called “an American Maverick” by Philip Glass, as well as music by Nico Muhly and Shawn Jaeger.
About Contemporaneous: Founded in 2010 at Bard College, Contemporaneous has to date played over sixty shows at venues including (le) poisson rouge, Merkin Concert Hall, Roulette, St. Ann’s Warehouse, Galapagos Art Space, Baryshnikov Arts Center, and The Stone and has been featured as guest artist at the MATA Interval Series, Tribeca New Music Festival, Neighborhood Classics, Music with a View, Make Music New York, and in California at the Berkeley Arts Festival. The ensemble’s recordings have been featured on many radio programs, including WNYC’s “New Sounds” and WRTI’s “Now is the Time.” Contemporaneous supports the work of new and established composers, encouraging artists to take risks, challenge expectations, and defy constraints.
