Unsettling, frantic and anti-sentimental, Hans Tammen’s Third Eye Electric Band– for whom machine oil is mother’s milk – fuse relentless polyrhythmic machinations with ethereal yet roughly sewn soundscapes, like a mix of Mwandishi, Bitches Brew and Sextant, with a hint of Magma. Dark, sometimes brooding ensemble passages mix and mingle with tightly woven drum-loops, and extended solo cadenzas build up to a mighty hymn to machine work, music of a metallic nightmare.

Weird Wednesday is a monthly series curated by composer, instrument inventor and mad scientist Terry Dame. Nothing says June like weird percussion so this month’s guest artists are two weirdo percussionists, Daniel Jodacy and Eric Farber. Each will be doing their own set on their very own home made suitcase percussion rigs. Plus, as usual a short interlude of musical weirdness by yours truly, Terry Dame, host and chief weirdo. This month I’ll be presenting a new piece for 8 weirdos playing percussive objects. And don’t forget the monthly segment “60 Seconds of Weirdness”… this month with a special cameo appearance by beatbox wizard Adam Matta.
Daniel Jodacy will present:
The Musical Suitcase Project.
All instruments made out of found objects…
Video motors, cigar boxes….
Some new instruments will be premiered.
My new u f o….
Eric Farber will present:
Batterie-en-Valise: music for two percussionists and six suitcases.
Six gutted-out vintage suitcases – each housing a quirky collection of curated found objects – transform into a cacophonous jungle gym of mounted percussion assemblages and dangling curiosities.
The music superimposes a long history of traditional rhythms onto an unstable contemporary frame, telling the story of a world that is losing its connection with authentic meaning. www.kineticontology.com
