After fronting the Sex Pistols, John Lydon formed PiL in 1978 and with their experimental sound fusing rock, dance, folk, ballet, pop, and dub, the band is regarded as producing some of the most diverse music of the 70s and 80s. This year marks the 30th Anniversary of their first U.S. tour as well as their U.S. TV debut on “American Bandstand”, where Lydon invited the audience onstage to dance with the band and host Dick Clark famously introduced their appearance as “a memorable moment in rock n roll, something special and interesting.” PiL recently returned to U.S. television for the first time in 18 years when they performed on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” outdoor stage. On this spring trek—which featured a stellar performance at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival–PiL are showcasing the unique sounds of tracks such as “Public Image,” “This Is Not a Love Song,” “Rise,” and “Disappointed,” with many further surprises in store.

Fuck Buttons was conceived by Andrew Hung & Benjamin John Power in the winter of 2004. Initially the group was born as an outlet for their nihilistic-noise tendencies but quickly, the two Fuck Buttons realised they could harness the use of noise as a tool to immerse and evoke. No longer afraid of melody or rhythm, the group started fusing all these elements to the point when drone becomes melody becomes rhythm.
Tribal beats and subtle beautiful melodies weave amongst contorting Technicolor drone-scapes while preaching distorted-vocals scream for dear hope herself… Fuck Buttons straddle you between the wall of sound that lies between the beginning of destruction and the end of birth. This grand noise will fondle you into a state of immersed euphoria.

The Unsilent Film Series is a new monthly series taking place at (le) Poisson Rouge. The Unsilent Film Series brings classic films back into the live music realm with new scores from prominent musicians. The combining of live music with films pre-dates actual sound technology for film. From the end of the 19th century on filmmakers and theatres have hired pianists, organists, and small ensembles to accompany silent films. The Unsilent Film Series takes this tradition and modernizes it combining silent films (and sometimes not-so-silent films) in a live music venue, with a variety of genres – ambient, indie-rock, jazz, classical – and a variety of cocktails. And Marc Ribot is the first artist of this series to do a rendition of Charlie Chaplin’s The Kid.
