Hey Sohrab,

I just made this short piece inspired by the work of a great 92 year-old artist, Leo Rabkin.
Share it far & wide if you like it. I want to get the word out that Leo (who made the great boxes in the film), has a show at Luise Ross Gallery. I don’t know whether you’ll like it, but the music is by a good friend, Greg Karnilaw…

Of course I like this video so let’s enjoy it!

This short is inspired by the work of Leo Rabkin, an amazing 92 year-old New York artist, who creates what he calls “nugatory divagations” using materials that might be viewed as worthless (nugatory) to create unexpected experiences off the beaten track (divagations). I love the sense of play and the tension between representation and abstraction where Leo’s works seem precariously perched.

Thanks to Leo for letting me play with his “toys for grown-ups.” Greg Karnilaw’s fantastic music, Sabina Hahn’s playful animation, Juan Carlos Borrero’s rich cinematography and Chris Arnold’s percussive editing made it a joy to create this piece!
