Saxophone player Arthur Blythe, a titan of the ’70s and ’80s jazz scene, paired bop-rooted virtuosity with the crackling energy of free jazz. His career has stalled in recent years due to Parkinson’s disease, and here, a sizable crew of heavy improvisers unites to pay tribute and raise funds for his treatment. This event is organized by Oliver Lake. Those on hand include poets Amiri and Amina Baraka, guitarist Vernon Reid, bassist William Parker, tuba player Bob Stewart, and saxists Oliver Lake and Darius Jones.
