An amazing collaboration of musicians, led by drummer/percussionist Andre Martinez (former Cecil Taylor Unit).  This evening’s performance will reprise the motifs from their groundbreaking 2001 album Waking the Living (www.earthpeople.tv,).  In March 2001, a group of multi-talented musicians and friends premiered Waking the Living, a television broadcast performance, and the free-form music group Earth People was born.  Deeply rooted in almost every major musical tradition, ancient and modern, the members of Earth People have combined to form the vanguard of the modern avant-garde.  Earth People plays music that is inspirational and timeless, capturing the soul of the moment and the spirit of all people, young and old.

The esteemed Hudson Valley saxophonist Eric Person — a veteran of such ensembles as World Saxophone Quartet, as well as a sideman with major artists like Dave Holland, McCoy Tyner, Chico Hamilton, Ronald Shannon Jackson, John Hicks, along with many other groups under his own leadership — brings his new project “Duoscope”, which also features drummer/percussionist Shinnosuke Takahashi, into Quinn’s for the Monday Jazz Sessions series.

Innove Gnawa Band is a gnawa band comprised of artists from different parts of Morocco. Led by master Maalem Hassan BenJaafer, InnoVe Gnawa celebrates this ancient spiritual music of North Africa in NYC with an innovative, hypnotic, and ecstatic take on this trance-inducing folk tradition.
Stooges Brass Band has earned their rank as one of the elite brass bands in New Orleans. The band consistently provides a welcome blast of true New Orleans spirit engaging audiences with their innovative blend of traditional New Orleans brass sounds, contemporary jazz and hip-hop beats.
