On Friday November 18th, 2022. Musicians For Musicians (MFM) Presented its 7th “Music Is Essential” ZOOM Talk Event. MFM Members Banning Eyre and Sylvain Leroux spoke about Leroux’s Music Activism and his Non-Profit Fula Flute Ecole in Conakry, Guinea.
Leroux began with an overview of how he became interested in African music. Eyre guided the discussion in an interview style.
In this episode of the MFM Speaks Out podcast, Dawoud Kringle interviews NY’s composer and music educator Hubert Howe.
The topics discussed include studying composition at Princeton under people like Milton Babbitt and J.K. Randall, his opinions of Karlheinz Stockhausen, becoming a Professor of Music and Director of the Electronic Music studios at Queens College in New York and Julliard, his involvement with the New York Composer’s Circle, how electronic music was and is accepted in the classical music world, his thoughts about the influence of electronics on American popular music, such as Progressive Rock, Hip Hop, EDM, and composers and improvisers like Frank Zappa, Brian Eno, or Miles Davis.

Before I get to the meat & potatoes about the subject of this article, I must offer a few caveats.
First, I am a Muslim, and this is an article about Iran. So from time to time, I will speak with a Muslim voice – but perhaps not the voice you expected to hear. Second, I have some very specific ideas about geopolitics that some may find at best, interesting and at worst, disturbing or incomprehensible. Finally, I am going to present some very personal thoughts on a few things related to the subject matter and the editorial context in which this is being presented.
