Pianist Richard Bennett has been making waves in the music community with his very original interpretations and experiments with applying Indian ragas and their inner concepts to the piano. On the spring equinox, he brought his work to the Rubin Museum of Art.

The Drakkar BandThe rest of the world appears to becoming increasingly aware of the music of South East Asia from the 70’s….. The Drakkar Band who have just re-issued the eponymous album Drakkar 74 on Hong Kong based label Metal Postcard is going to the USA to play some gigs to help John Pirozzi launch his amazing documentary Don’t Think I’ve Forgotten. It’s worth remembering that the last time they played outside the country was 1973 to US servicemen in Vietnam. We’d be calling the tour.. “From Apocolypse Now to Hipster Central”!

BROTHERS OF THE GONG Is a collective of two gong enthusiasts who have come together to help people experience deep states of meditation. When the gong tones bathe you, your brainwaves are automatically tuned to the frequency of Alpha, Theta, or Delta….. Beta is the preferred brainstate of modern society and our exclusive focus on it has ultimately not served us well. If we are going to have a peaceful and more harmonious planet we need to change this. These meditations are our contribution to this effort.

CD EP Review: Manu Koch & Filtron M acting as as a filter in the age of musical and cultural multiplicity

Manu Koch has released an EP CD with his project Filtron M; music platform which attempts to act as as a filter in the age of musical and cultural multiplicity. It is mainly a live act consisting of various units such as Astoria Roots and Unique Afrique that showcase Manu’s compositions and the community of international musicians he’s been associated with.

The two projects that meet under the guise of Filtron M are Unique Afrique: Patrick Andy (bass), Harvey Wirht (drums), Brahim Fribgane (oud, percussion); and Astoria Roots: Panagiotis Andreou (bass, voice), Mauricio Zottarelli (drums), and Sebastian Nickoll (congas). Manu Koch plays piano and keyboards, and composes for both projects.
