Come join BRM this Wednesday for a special night of Indian Classical Music with Santoor maestro Pandit Satish Vyas and young tabla sensation Anubrata Chatterjee. These exemplary musicians are visiting from India and are we are calling all BRM fans to come show some Raga love!
Pandit Satish Vyas is one of India’s foremost santoor players and is a recipient of the Padmashree award, the fourth highest civilian award given by the Government of India. Born in a family of great musicians, he trained in Santoor under the pioneering maestro Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma.
Anubrata Chatterjee has risen to become one of India’s leading tabla players of his generation, performing at most major venues and music festivals both as a soloist and an accompanist to great maestros. He is the son and disciple of the legendary Pandit Anindo Chatterjee.

The fourth annual Queens New Music Festival will take place from May 13‐17, 2015; the kick-off concert on May 13th will be held at the Church-in-the-Gardens (50 Ascan Ave, Forest Hills, Queens) and the remaining festival performances will be held at The Secret Theatre Main Stage (44‐02 23rd Street, Long Island City, Queens). Cinema Cinema was established in 2008 when two Brooklyn-born and -raised cousins, Ev Gold and Paul Claro, joined forces. With Gold seamlessly intertwining guitar, pedals, and vocals, and Claro laying down a ferocious foundation, a new sound burst forth from the seeds of no-wave and hardcore.
Throughout the past six years, the two have financed and managed their own D.I.Y. touring schedule, playing over 350 shows, more than 30 U.S. states, and seven different countries.
Some of their most rewarding moments include five American tours with Greg Ginn (SST Records), opening multiple shows for Black Flag in their home city of Brooklyn, as well as touring Europe with world-renowned producer Martin Bisi.
AWJITA: The band chooses to call this tumultuous sound Grungy ArtGroove, wrought with a metallic density that baits its listeners with catchiness and improvisational grooves. Smooth and purposeful shifts in style, delving into sludge, punk, funk, psychedelia, and free jazz, form the progressive nature that is distinctly…Awjita. Dream Seed is a two-hour sound bath hosted by members of Golden Drum and Didge Project. Shamanic chanting, mantras, overtone singing, Native American songs, indigenous music, didgeridoos, crystal singing bowls, bells, gongs, harmoniums, tuning forks and other overtone-emitting instruments are used to create an environment conducive to deep relaxation and inward investigation. Participants are led through guided meditations and sound healing practices designed to harmonize body, mind and spirit.
Bachan Kaur has been a Kundalini Yoga teacher for over 10 years. She is a sacred music artist, and has released 5 CDs that are well-loved in the yoga world and beyond. She has been living in Mexico, Canada and the USA over the past several years facilitating and continuing her work on musical, spiritual, artistic and ecological projects. In the May of 2015, Jeremy Danneman on alto sax and clarinet and Parade of One, Inc. will host Rwandan musician Sophie Nzayisenga in New York City. Sophie is the only professional, female inanga player in the world, and the inanga is a string instrument so rare there isn’t even a wikipedia page about it.
Sophie Nzayisenga and Jeremy Danneman will be joined by percussionist Tim Keiper.
