Nashville-based, Georgia-bred singer-songwriter, Lera Lynn’s music may be hard to categorize, but that is likely why she appeals to so many. While the music business likes to wrap everything up in neat little packages, that isn’t always possible. Lera’s music has frequently been filed under “Americana”, “Folk” and “Country.” But those categorizations tell only part of the story. “I just want to stop thinking about music as a marketing campaign,” Lera says. “Ray Charles went from jazz to R&B to country. Paul McCartney will do a ballad next to ‘Helter Skelter,’ and not think twice. The most successful and lasting artists let inspiration steer them, not genre or marketing pitch. I’m just doing what moves me as it comes.”

This past summer, master drummer and afrobeat innovator Tony Allen and Chicago Afrobeat Project (CAbP) finally collaborated after years of mutual respect and admiration. They performed to packed venues in cities across the Midwest U.S. and spent days at Chicago’s Fullerton Recording Studios creating new music non-stop.
Tony Allen has never before collaborated with an American afrobeat band on a full album. So the outcome of his collaboration with Chicago Afrobeat Project — an album with more than seven tracks — is set to make history. Slated for release later this year or early next, the album is a work of sheer artistic and rhythmic brilliance. It will change the way afrobeat is played in America. Each track is a beautifully crafted blend of cultures, politics, musical histories, interpretations of afrobeat, and individual artistic styles.
The Paris-based Allen – original and longtime drummer for Fela Kuti – is acclaimed for injecting the “beat” into afrobeat and has released more than five solo albums over his impressive career. Recently Allen teamed with Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers and Damon Albarn (Gorillaz, Blur) on “Rocket, Juice and the Moon” (2012), a funky album exploration of groove sketches that features Erykah Badu, Fatoumata Diawara, M.anifest, and more.
As a relentless innovator, Allen continues to blaze his musical path forward. Brian Eno once called Tony “the greatest living drummer,” and Allen has also collaborated with Albarn on the studio project “The Good, the Bad and the Queen” (2007).
Chicago Afrobeat Project, a cornerstone of the North American afrobeat revitalization over the past decade has released three full-length studio albums to date including 2013’s “Nyash UP!” The album features afrobeat interpretations of rock hits by Radiohead, Talking Heads and Fugazi. The band continues to tour year-round across the United States and Canada.

An up-and-coming voice in the Southern electronic and hip-hop scenes, AF THE NAYSAYER blends a masterful postmodern electronic mixture of diverse influences. Fusing 80s R&B, 90s hip hop, and old-school Japanese video game soundtracks, AF synthesizes a soulful sound, simultaneously nostalgic and futuristic. His collaborations in New Orleans have led to appearances supporting producer Jneiro Jarel’s Viberian Experience, as well as the creation of the showcase Dolo Jazz Suite, of which he is the host and founder. He currently lives in Lake Charles, LA and tours extensively. His most recent beat tape, ‘The Autodidact Instrumentals Vol. 1’, will be available late Summer/early Fall of 2014 from Step Pepper Records.
Prism House is a Brooklyn-based audio/visual electronic duo focused on an aesthetic that feels uniquely a part of the internet age. The group performs regularly in and around New York City and has quickly gained a reputation for a live show that refreshingly combines immersive live visuals with found sound collage style musical compositions. The result is an experience that rides the line between dance and experimental music with a focus on controlled improvisation, and is an exciting take on electronic performance in an era dominated by pre-arranged performances and laptop DJ aesthetics.
Slomile Swift blending electronic dance music’s synthesizers and hip hop’s sample-laden production, Slomile Swift from Baton Rouge, La. has made a very strong debut in the local music scene with his abrasive, yet soulful; accessible, yet eclectic; brash, yet melodic production.

Chris Cochrane is one of the greatest and most inventive musicians in New York City’s long-running “Downtown” scene and was the second president of the Improviser’s Network (I.N.) which gave birth to the free improv journal the improvisor. Since moving to New York, Chris has performed regularly in bands- including the mighty Curlew- and improvised with hundreds of the scene’s leading players. He is considered to be one of the most brilliant, daring, and singular guitarists/songwriters out there. In addition to his rare solo recordings and work with a number of bands- including the legendary, groundbreaking experimental prog unit NO SAFETY, which he co-founded with harpist Zeena Parkins- he has played live and/or recorded with an astounding array of similarly great musicians (John Zorn, Bongwater, Fred Frith, Mike Patton, Marc Ribot, Ikue Mori, et. al.) visual artists, and choreographers.
