Through his soulful presentation and improvisations, combined with mastery over sargams, taans, and renditions of Khayal, Sanjoy Banerjee explores the evening ragas, the melodic beauty and majestic splendor of which evoke deep emotions within his listeners.
Pt. Sanjoy Banerjee is one of the finest vocalists of international repute from India and a distinguished exponent of the Kirana Gharana of North Indian Vocal Classical Music. Sanjoyji was a scholar at ITC Sangeet Research Academy under the able guidance of Late Pt. A.T. ComposersCollaborative, Inc. & The Center at West Park present a free 24-hour marathon performance of SERIOUS IMMOBILITIES, to usher in 2015’s Make Music New York.
SERIOUS IMMOBILITIES in its fully-realized form consists of two “layers” of music performed simultaneously. These are:
1) Serious Immobilities – 840 variations on Erik Satie’s Vexations, for piano solo, by Arthur Jarvinen & 2) Spineless Dog – variations on Satie’s Vexations, for MIDI keyboard controller, MacIntosh computer, and electronics, by Randall Woolf.
The performance begins on Saturday, June 20th at 8:00 AM and concludes on Sunday, June 21st at 8:00 AM, with a rotating group of musicians, featuring many of the new music world’s luminaries. Artists scheduled to perform include:

Falu’s Bollywood Orchestra combines the timeless elegance of Bollywood’s golden age music with a modern inventive style to create a musically and visually stunning treat.
Singer Falu is highly acclaimed for her formidable Indian classically-shaped vocal talent. Currently her first album “Falu” is featured in Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History’s “Beyond Bollywood” exhibit as representative of the voice of Indian American trendsetting artists, and in early 2015 Falu was named one of the top 20 most influential Global Indian Women in India’s Economic Times.
Falu moved to the States in 2000 and her subsequent career has led to a series of brilliant and high profile collaborations with Yo-Yo Ma, Wyclef Jean, Philip Glass, Ricky Martin, Blues Traveler and A. R. Rahman. She was appointed Carnegie Hall’s ambassador of Indian Music in 2006 and has performed there numerous times as part of the Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute programs.
Falu and her eponymous band have put out two albums of original and traditional music (“Falu” in 2007 and “Foras Road” in 2013). These songs and live performances have been aired on FOX TV, National Geographic TV and NPR, and have been described by the New York Times as “East and West, ancient and modern”, by Billboard as “Ethereal and Transcendent” and by Vogue as “a rare brand of timeless elegance.”

Taikoza has created a new sound using the thunderous rhythms of the ancestral Taiko drums and the magical sounds of the bamboo flutes. Roughly translated, Taiko means big drums-and that’s exactly what Taikoza brings. Big Drums, powerful rhythms, and electrifying, room-thumping energy. This exciting group draws from Japan’s rich tradition of music and performance to create a highly visual performance.
Taikoza was formed in New York City by members of Ondekoza (the group that started the renaissance of taiko in Japan in the 60s and introduced Taiko to the world). The members of Taikoza have performed in some of the most prestigious halls and locations such as Carnegie Hall, Boston Symphony Hall, Suntory Hall, Moscow’s Tchaikovsky Hall and House of Music, Osaka Festival Hall, Lincoln Center, Mount Fuji, Miyajima Temple in Hiroshima, Peace Memorial Hall in Hiroshima and many others.
