1. Karl Berger’s Stone Workshop Orchestra

During the ‘70- and ‘80’s, the Woodstock-based Creative Music Studio was considered the premier study center for contemporary creative music. Founded in 1971 by Karl Berger , Ingrid Sertso and Ornette Coleman, CMS brought together leading innovators in the jazz and world music communities. Unprecedented in its range and diversity, CMS was an acknowledged phenomenon in the international music world.

2. Dana Leong

The Dana Leong Trio, featuring Dana Leong (cello/trombone), John Shannon (guitar), and DJ Icewater, is the latest incarnation of Leong’s ever-expansive compositions blending jazz, classical and pop.
The concert will feature the New York premiere of Music from IdEgo, a work originally commissioned by the San Francisco-based Project Bandaloop aerial dance company.
Described by Leong as “a musical dream journal,” the work was written over the course of 30 days during which he meditated on melodies while keeping a manuscript book next to his bed so as to be able to wake up and notate the very first notes that came to mind.
“It’s highly imaginative, lyrical, and even entrancing,” Leong says. The guest artists John Shannon and DJ Icewater bring to the mix an equally exciting blend of instrumental techniques and musical styles.

4. The New York Griot Summit

The New York Griot Summit brings together New York City’s finest West African griots—musician/storyteller/poet/historian “praise singers” who belong to the ancient Mande civilization of West Africa. This historic event features more than 15 artists from many West African countries, playing a variety of instruments in the gardens throughout the afternoon.

5. Shusmo

This progressive New-York-based band was formed by Palestinian musician Tareq Abboushi in the Fall of 2000. Since it’s inception, Shusmo has cultivated a unique identity by creating an innovative and original type of music utilizing a wide range of influences with Middle-Eastern music at its core.
What makes it stand out is how organically their rich and versatile repertoire blends different genres. It is almost impossible to label the style, thus the name “Shusmo” which in Arabic means “Whatchamacallit”.

Known for collaborations with R&B stars like D’Angelo and Erykah Badu, Roy Hargrove is among the foremost jazz trumpeters of his generation. The evening also includes the debut of The Badwagon, a project that pits two outstanding piano trios, Jason Moran & The Bandwagon and The Bad Plus, against one another onstage.

8. Youssou Ndour

Youssou Ndour, one of the world’s best known and best loved African singers released his first foray into Reggae music, Dakar- Kingston on June 7th, 2011 and has started his US tour.

9. Martin Bisi w. Quiet Lights (EP release) & Zaza

Martin Bisi, has been at a crossroads of indie/punk, avant garde, noire/cabaret rock, and electronic music since the early 80’s – not only with his own songs and musical creations, but also as producer/engineer on classic albums by Sonic Youth, Herbie Hancock’s Rockit, Swans, Africa Bambaata, The Dresden Dolls, Material/Bill Laswell, John Zorn, Boredoms, Helmet, White Zombie, Cop Shoot Cop, Foetus and others. Early this year he released a solo album Sirens Of The Apocalypse – and more recently an EP, Son Of A Gun, which features special guests Bill Laswell and members of The Dresden Dolls, The Fiery Furnaces, Balkan Beat Box, and World Inferno Friendship Society.

11. Future Quest & Fula Flute

The first in a series of concerts programmed to coincide with The Public Art Fund’s Sol LeWitt installation in City Hall Park, Theo Bleckmann  will perform with Future Quest, a quintet devoted to “re-imaginings” of Meredith Monk’s music. Future Quest is Bleckmann on vocals, saxophonists Ellery Eskelin and Tony Malaby, pianist Erik Deutsch, and John Hollenbeck on percussion. They will be joined on the bill by a special edition of Fula Flute, featuring: Bailo Bah, Fula flute; Sylvain Leroux, Fula flute; Abdoulaye Diabate, voice and guitar; Karl Berger, vibraphone and piano; Mamadou Ba, bass; Sergo Decius, congas and percussion.
